Sneaky Beaky Picks - April 2017

Their Finest (7 April 17)

Gemma Arterton revisits our screens, after previous anticlimactic box-office flops such as vampire flick Byzantium (2012) and fantasy-horror Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013), she returns to play Catrin Cole: a screenwriter hired to assist with the production of propaganda films during WW2, in order to boost morale for the nation and attract support from America. Based on true events and set in a time amidst with bombs, turmoil and sexism, Their Finest portrays a witty, heart-warming tale with an all-star British cast featuring the likes of Sam Clafin and Bill Nighy. It's a concoction of romance, comedy and good ole’ British wartime spirit. For feminists, this film will definitely tick a few boxes.

The Fate of the Furious (14 April '17)

Yes, its that time again! We are graced with yet another blockbuster in the Fast and Furious series but this time it looks like Vin Diesal has turned baddie but not loveable baddie, actual baddie and is now working against his friends, under the influence of seductress Charlize Theron. Expect a hideously cringey script, a load of high-tech weapons and some amusing banter between Ludacris and Tyrese Gibson! The absence of Paul Walker will be greatly felt in this film and as the team try to get Dom back to his usual ride or die, tight tank-top self, the "fate" of the furious will probably lie in a self-reflective realisation on how important family is to this highly dysfunctional group of criminals.

Colossal (TBC April/May '17)

Anne Hathaway unexpectedly stars in this sci-fi comedy about an alcoholic misfit who realizes that the mental breakdown she is experiencing, is weirdly linked to multiple catastrophic events occurring in the world. It looks a bit like Godzilla meets Pacific Rim: the comedy! Whilst Hathaway rocks the fluffy bang-look that I can only associate with The Princess Diaries, Jason Sudekis and Dan Stevens also feature in this movie which looks too satire to be taken seriously as a sci-fi, nor funny enough to be refreshing and original.
